Coronavirus update US: Texas COVID-19 hospitalizations increase by 7.3%

The latest data from the US revealed that hospitalizations in the state of Texas increased by 7.3% on Wednesday to 4,389 from 4,092. Earlier in the day, other data showed that the number of confirmed coronavirus infections in California jumped to 7,149 from 5,019 on Tuesday.

Market reaction

The flight-to-safety on Wednesday weighed heavily on major equity indexes in the US. As of writing, the S&P 500 was down 1.46% on the day at 3,084 points, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was losing 1.7% and the Nasdaq Composite was falling 0.85%. Meanwhile, the US Dollar Index is up 0.4% at 97.08.
