Draghi defends ECB independence, keeps upbeat tone
At his press conference today, President Mario Draghi has defended the ECB’s independence and has stressed that the Governing Council did not even discussed the so-called ‘helicopter money’. He stressed that the vote amongst members was unanimous in supporting the central bank’s independence.
Draghi also hinted at the (firm) possibility that consumer prices could return to negative values in the coming months, while risks in the euro region remain tilted to the downside.
Still in the Q&A session, Draghi argued that the ECB’s monetary policy will continue its divergent path from other jurisdictions.
EUR/USD keeps its upside intact, navigating the 1.1380/1.1400 band as the press is underway.
